TRIPLE P (Positive Parenting Program)

Throughout 2008-09 the Society, in partnership with fifteen other agencies, provided a full time Triple P coordinator to assist both the Agency and the community to move towards full development of Triple P.  In total there are 83 staff trained and accredited to facilitate Triple P in the communityThe program is delivered in all geographic areas across Hastings and Prince Edward. Triple P is a system of parenting support and education with multiple levels of support that increase with intensity. This allows us to provide increased support to families in the community.  This support will both reduce admissions and provide support to families to enable children who have been admitted to return to their home in a more timely manner whenever possible.
This position coordinates all efforts at HCAS and our partner agencies as we move towards integrating the Triple P thinking and programs into our services to families, children and caregivers.

In January 2009, the Triple P Steering Committee and Quinte Children’s Foundation announced a $25,000 donation to Triple P to support the role of the Coordinator  of Triple P.  In addition the United Way of Quinte and the Rotary Club of Belleville have offered their support of Triple P by donating $25,000 and $15,000 respectively.  These generous offers of support will go directly towards the day to day operations of the program such as resources for families and training for staff to facilitate in the community.   There has been consistent feedback provided by all partners involved in the Triple P program that a key to its sustainability is the overall coordination.  This past year HCAS supported the role of the coordinator with the total cost offset by Ministry funding dollars.  Over the last two years the program has grown considerably and roles related to data collection, referral systems and program integrity have required full time attention.  Partners have grown from the initial group comprised of eleven to our current partners numbering fifteen.   In addition we have doubled the staff trained in various levels across both counties.
Throughout the next year there is continued support and commitment to the full time Coordinator of Triple P and the operation of the program.  We have received extremely positive responses from all involved including:  the families who have accessed the program, staff delivering and partners involved in the collaboration.   The Triple P Steering Committee is  appreciative of the generous support shown by the Quinte Children's Foundation, United Way of Quinte and Rotary Club of Belleville and we look forward to working together throughout this next year improving the services provided to families and children at risk of abuse/maltreatment.

This past year has been one of tremendous growth for the Triple P program across Hastings and Prince Edward.  The Society's support for the Coordinator position has been instrumental in the success of the program todate.  In keeping with the community approach and focus the role of the Coordinator will transition from the Society to another partner involved in the program as of April 1/09.  The Steering Committee is very pleased to announce that Julie London from Family Space will take over the role of Coordinator as of that date.  We look forward to working with Julie in her role as we continue to build Triple P throughout the 2009/10 year.
